EDUCA-Doc

EDUCA-Doc Doctoral Education Pilot is part of the national doctoral education pilot in Finland for the period 2024-2027. The national aim is to develop new practices of doctoral education to better meet the needs of the society and work market in Finland. With developing new practices for doctoral education and providing a fixed funding, the doctoral researchers are enabled to graduate in three years target-time. The doctoral education pilot is a programme funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. Nationally, altogether 1000 new doctors will be trained in different doctoral education pilots.

EDUCA-Doc Doctoral Education Pilot is strongly linked to the EDUCA Flagship and is coordinated by the University of Jyväskylä, in collaboration with a consortium including the University of Turku, the University of Helsinki, and Aalto University.  Also, the University of Tampere, University of Oulu, University of Eastern Finland, University of Lapland, and Åbo Academy are taking part in the EDUCA-Doc pilot. A total of 78 doctoral researchers will work within the EDUCA-Doc Doctoral Education Pilot in these partner universities.

The aim of the EDUCA-Doc is to train the next generation of doctorates equipped with high-level researcher skills, in-depth scientific knowledge of their field of research as well as transferable skills needed to adapt to working-life challenges.

The research topics of the EDUCA-Doc doctoral researchers are linked to the research areas of the EDUCA Flagship. In addition to their dissertation work, the doctoral researches will conduct doctoral studies according to the requirements of their own university and doctoral programme, and engage in work-life collaboration with a company or organisation that suites their research area. The aim is that PhDs graduating in three years will get widely employed in both the public and private sectors in Finnish society.

The doctoral researchers will participate in meetings, workshops and seminars that are partly arranged in collaboration with the EDUCA Flagship.
