Professor Marja-Kristiina Lerkkanen has been appointed dean

The leader of EDUCA Flagship, Professor Marja-Kristiina Lerkkanen, will also take up the position of Dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the University of Jyväskylä on January 1, 2026.  Lerkkanen has been a professor in the Faculty of Education since 2014 and later in the Faculty of Education and Psychology.

After consulting the faculty councils, the Rector of the University of Jyväskylä Jari Ojala has appointed the deans of the University’s faculties for the term from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2029. 

Professor of Education Marja-Kristiina Lerkkanen, who is also the leader of EDUCA Flagship consortium, will start in January the position of Dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology. The dean's duties overlap well with EDUCA Flagship's stakeholder cooperation and research activities, so Lerkkanen will continue as the flagship's director as before.

Lerkkanen has been a professor in the Faculty of Education since 2014 and later in the Faculty of Education and Psychology, and she has served as a vice head responsible for research at the Teacher Training School for eight years.

She has extensive experience in national and international research and teaching activities and related cooperation networks and positions of trust.
