Professor emeritus Jari Lavonen awarded honorary doctorate in Argentina

The honorary title was awarded to Professor Jari Lavonen in recognition of his academic and professional career in teacher training and educational innovation. In EDUCA Flagship he is participating in the research area 4 (Fostering competences of teachers and educational leaders in learning communities).

Professor emeritus Jari Lavonen from the University of Helsinki  has been awarded an honorary doctorate at the University of Buenos Aires (Universidad de la Ciudad), Argentina. The honorary doctorate was the first in its history.

The honorary title was awarded to Professor Jari Lavonen in recognition of his academic and professional career in teacher training and educational innovation. Throughout his career, he has produced more than 600 academic publications and led key organizations in the development of educational policies. In EDUCA Flagship he is participating in the research area 4 (Fostering competences of teachers and educational leaders in learning communities).

The partnership with the University of Buenos Aires has lasted for eight years, Lavonen says.

"Collaboration with Argentina has focused on establishing a community-based primary teacher education programme. Alongside research cooperation, STEM education lectures have been delivered both in person and remotely via Zoom."

The recognition was widely reported in the Argentine media.
