Given its complex and multifaceted causes and its lasting impact on young people’s development and life trajectories, advancing our understanding of absenteeism, including its risk and protective factors, is critical for building effective systems and interventions that support regular school attendance and student wellbeing.

MA (Educ.) Faisal Channa (University of Jyväskylä) defends his doctoral dissertation in teacher education "Temporal and sequential dynamics of socially shared regulation in collaborative learning among pre- and in-service teachers"on June 12, 2026.

Lotta Allemand, KM, VTM will defend her doctoral dissertation entitled "Parental involvement in education within a Finnish school context" in the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki, on 6 June 2026.

The EDUCA Conference in May 2026 brings together researchers from across the flagship to share and discuss their work. Hosted by Aalto University in Espoo, the conference is open to all EDUCA researchers.

A welcome seminar for the new Professor of Practice will be held on Monday, April 20 starting at 10 AM at the University of Jyväskylä. The event will be streamed.

FM Reetta Kyynäräinen will defend her doctoral dissertation at the University of Turku on April 2, 2026, as the first doctoral researcher in the EDUCA-Doc pilot program. The study explores how university students react to mistakes during a chemistry laboratory course.

MSc Umar Bin Qushem defends the dissertation in Learning Analytics titled “Personalizing K–12 STEM Education through Technology-Enhanced Learning and Learning Analytics” at the University of Turku on 27 March 2026.

Kirsi-Marja Heikkinen, KM will defend the doctoral dissertation entitled "Early Childhood Education and Care Centre Leadership Through the Lens of Complexity - From Wicked Problems to Integrated Resources" in the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki, on 17 January 2026 at 10:00.

MA (Educ.) Julia Kuusiholma-Linnamäki defends her doctoral dissertation "Children’s Care Arrangements by Age Four and Contextual Factors in the Crosscurrents of Finland’s Childcare Policies" on December 5, 2025.

The EDUCA flagship organises consortium meeting at the University of Turku. EDUCA network members (EDUCA Flagship researchers, EDUCA related post docs and doctoral researchers and representatives of the stakeholders) have been invited to the event.

MA Auli Lehtinen (Faculty of Education and Psychology, Teacher Education) defends her doctoral dissertation in teacher education "Crossing boundaries - becoming critical, dialogical, and collaborative teachers".

MA (Educ.) Janni Alho defends her doctoral dissertation in teacher education "Student teachers' leadership development in a Finnish class teacher education-integrated study group".

The doctoral dissertation in educational sciences titled "Building a School as a Learning Community: Exploring the Development of a Unified Comprehensive School in Finland" will be defended on November 29 at 12:00 in Ruusupuisto, room RUUD101 (Juho).

In the spring and autumn semesters of 2024, the University of Jyväskylä will organise an open opportunity for all interested to learn about the faculties' cutting-edge research and emerging research areas. The event will be in Finnish.
