Tips for parents 2: Where does the interest in reading come from?

As part of the study Comics as a Gateway to Reading, researchers from the EDUCA Flagship have prepared information materials for parents of primary school-aged children on how to support their children’s reading interest and the development of their reading skills at home. The second part provides tips for sparking or sustaining children’s interest in reading, taking into account their different reading skill level.

An interest in reading emerges and grows when a child has positive experiences with reading and discovers stories they find interesting. A third-grader may still need an adult’s support to maintain their interest in reading. Reading together, talking about reading experiences, and listening to your child can help you find ways to inspire or maintain their interest in books and stories. Read more!
